BPG 52 Week Challenge: Abstract

Continuing the weekly challenges for the Brighton Photographers Group on Facebook. The rules are simple, one image per theme (unless otherwise stated) and ideally shot the same week as the theme (ie no submitting from archives). This was another ‘anything and nothing’ challenge for me; one of those subjective themes that can be so wideContinue reading “BPG 52 Week Challenge: Abstract”

Weekly Photo Challenge: The Road Taken

via Photo Challenge: The Road Taken This was taken on our awesome North America road trip a few years ago; snapped from the car while travelling along the I-90 (I think) towards Seattle. We were actually headed to Vancouver but wanted to stop and experience Seattle for a couple of hours. On the way, seeing theseContinue reading “Weekly Photo Challenge: The Road Taken”

Photo 101 [2016] Day 17: Glass

Day 17’s theme is Glass. Incorporate glass in today’s image: a window, a mirror, a wine glass, sunglasses, or something else. It doesn’t matter what form the glass takes. As much as I’d like to be surrounded by wine glasses (filled,of course), that wasn’t to be on a post-bank-holiday Tuesday. Something I was surrounded byContinue reading “Photo 101 [2016] Day 17: Glass”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Vibrant

This week’s challenge is Vibrant! I took this at Mayfield Lavender in Surrey a couple of summers ago. Beautiful colours to be surrounded by… as long as you are OK with bees buzzing around you! They love the lavender too. Shot on DSLR with an 18-105mm kit lens. Processed in Lightroom.

Photo101: Architecture & Monochrome (Day 12)

Day 12’s theme is “Architecture”, with the additional tip to explore the drama of monochrome. As I was in London I took the opportunity to grab a few shots of The Shard from London Bridge Quarter. I thought its stark lines along with some dramatic clouds would be a good candidate for mono. Shot on Fuji X100T, processed inContinue reading “Photo101: Architecture & Monochrome (Day 12)”

Photo101: Mystery & Lighting Effects (Day 10)

Day 10 already! The theme is “mystery”, with the extra tip to manipulate the light to create an effect; using highlights and shadows to convey mood. I’m a couple of days late posting this (using the weekend to catch up), but I noticed the evening clouds yesterday (after the weather being a mix of overcast and light rain)Continue reading “Photo101: Mystery & Lighting Effects (Day 10)”

Tintagel sunset, Cornwall

This was taken on a recent holiday to Cornwall. We headed out to Tintagel via Boscastle, and arrived just as Tintagel Castle was closing (no matter, as we had gone with the intention of watching sunset). We were still able to clamber up to some ruins for a good vantage point. Although it had beenContinue reading “Tintagel sunset, Cornwall”

Big sky, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

We visited Crater Lake on our amazing NA road trip. Obviously this isn’t one of the lake itself but whenever I browse through the shots from that trip I always stop at this one and marvel at the sky. It was a good thing that when I found something cool to shoot (the lake), IContinue reading “Big sky, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon”
